The PGA Tour's 2026 season will begin in Hawaii, but it won't begin with The Sentry.

The Tour announced Wednesday that they have canceled the 2026 edition of the erstwhile Tournament of Champions, which has been played at Kapalua Resort's Plantation Couse for 27 years.

Instead, the Sony Open in Hawaii will start the 2026 PGA Tour schedule from January 15-18, marking the latest start to the schedule in 57 years.

On September 16, the PGA Tour announced it was seeking a temporary venue for this year's Signature tournament amidst a water-sourcing fight and an ongoing drought that left Maui scrambling, forced the Plantation Course in poor shape and in danger of irreparable harm.

The Tour was unable to identify a venue for the 2026 edition of the event, which is reserved for PGA Tour winners in the last year and those who finished in the top 50 of the final FedEx Cup standings. Kapalua Resort announced Wednesday, however, that the Plantation Course will reopen on November 10.

“Since it first became a possibility that the PGA Tour would not be able to play at The Plantation Course at Kapalua due to the ongoing drought conditions on Maui, we worked closely with our partners at Sentry to assess options for contesting The Sentry in 2026,” said PGA Tour Chief Competitions Officer Tyler Dennis. “While it is unfortunate to arrive at this decision, we are appreciative of the collaboration and dedication from Sentry Insurance, a tremendous partner of ours.”

Players who earned a spot in The Sentry 2026 as a result of a PGA Tour win -- but that did not finish the season in the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings -- will be added to the RBC Heritage field for 2026, giving them a replacement opportunity to compete in a Signature event.

The 2026 PGA Tour Champions season will also start in Hawaii with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, played on the Big Island the week after the Sony Open in Hawaii.
