The 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has been shortened to 54 holes after severe winds canceled the remainder of Saturday play.
The second round of the DP World Tour pro-am event was completed on Saturday morning, with the completion forced to Saturday morning after unplayable conditions on Friday due to Storm Amy.
Following the second round, the third round began in the event with a three-course rotation, with players moving to the next course of three for their pro-am team in the tournament rotation: the Old Course at St. Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie. The tournament format typically calls for all 168 pro-am teams to complete one round on each course before a cut to the top 60 individual professionals and the top 20 pro-am teams for the final round on the Old Course.
However, severe winds forced a delay in play that ultimately turned into a suspension of play before any group could complete more than two holes of the third round, leading to a change in format.
“Following consultation with IMG, Alfred Dunhill and the DP World Tour, the decision has been made to reduce this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship to 54 holes," said Tournament director Mikael Eriksson.
“We attempted to begin the third round this afternoon, but shortly after play started wind gusts of 56mph were recorded which resulted in play being suspended. Conditions for the remainder of the day gave us no option but to cancel the third round, which will start afresh on Sunday morning.”
All third-round play which started on Saturday will not count and be wiped out. The third, and now final, round will start as a two-tee start off Nos. 1 and 10, beginning at 9 a.m. local time.
