Payntr Golf now owns its full intellectual property related to golf, and it's a big moment for the company.
With that acquisition of IP, Payntr Golf now owns all of their trademarks, technologies, product innovations, and brand assets within the golf category. In other words, Payntr has full control over its destiny after originally operating from a licensing model.
The impact is huge for the footwear brand, which launched in 2021.
“Securing ownership of our intellectual property is a foundational moment for Payntr Golf,” said Mike Forsey, Payntr Golf co-founder and president. “Owning our brand outright gives us the ability to protect what we’ve built, fully control our innovations, and accelerate our long-term growth with total confidence. This isn’t just about safeguarding what we’ve created, it’s about unlocking what comes next.”
From a practical standpoint, Payntr Golf owning its own IP allows it to control its end-to-end operations, including brand identity, product development, marketing strategies and quality standards. Other companies now cannot license similar technologies that Payntr had been previously licensing.
It impacts the bottom line, too, by not having to pay a licensing fee for proprietary technology and branding. That all means a higher valuation for the company in the long-haul.
The company has made big strides in four-plus years, including retail distribution agreements (Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy and PGA Tour Superstore) and partnering with former world No. 1 Jason Day, whose fashion sense has been a magnet for eyeballs on the PGA Tour. Payntr has used the partnership and collaborative shoe releases (Eighty Seven SC) to showcase their vision for golf footwear, which has an athletic feel while not eschewing classic styling.
This latest move to take ownership of intellectual property will allow the brand to make what they feel is another big leap.
“Our product pipeline is rich with opportunity, and now, with full IP ownership, we have the freedom and flexibility to bring those innovations to market on our own terms,” said Michael Glancy, Payntr Golf co-founder and creative director. “This move marks the next phase in Payntr Golf’s evolution as a global performance brand.”
