Scottie Scheffler doesn't have his usual caddie, Ted Scott, on the bag for the 2025 BMW Championship, the second leg of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs played this year at Caves Valley Golf Club near Baltimore, Maryland.
Scott isn't on the bag this week he's attending to what is described as a "private family matter." He left the FedEx St. Jude Championship for last Sunday's final round to attend to the matter. We wish Scott all the best.
When Scott started caddying for Scheffler, after having worked with Bubba Watson for two Masters titles, the two made clear how much of a priority family was for both of them.
"That's something we talked about from the beginning of our relationship was family always comes first, and it's the same thing for me as it is for my caddie," Scheffler said at the 2024 PGA Championship, when Scott left for the third round to attend his daughter's high school graduation.
Last week, PGA Tour chaplain Brad Payne, filled in for Scott for the second time in about 14 months. This week, Michael Cromie, who regularly caddies for six-time PGA Tour winner Chris Kirk, will take up the bag for the whole week. Kirk was eliminated from the playoffs last week in Memphis.
Scheffler has talked openly this year about his faith and the importance of that to his performance. He's also been open about the desire to spend time with his family, specifically his wife, for important events.
Scheffler has a chance to win for the fifth time in 2025, but he cannot be overtaken for the lead in the FedEx Cup standings. He is guaranteed to earn a $5 million bonus for being in first place heading into the Tour Championship, even if he finishes last in the 49-player field.
