Donald Trump’s Trump National Doral set to host PGA Tour return in 2026: Report

President Donald Trump's Trump National Doral Resort in Florida is set to once again host the PGA Tour in 2026.

According to a report from Sports Business Journal, Trump National Doral and its Blue Monster Course will host a new PGA Tour event that is slated to be played in late April. The event will reportedly be played April 30 - May 3 next year, just after the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the PGA Tour's team event in Louisiana. The event could be a new Signature event, with a $20 million purse. However, the Truist Championship, typically played in Charlotte at Quail Hollow Club, would immediately follow that date on the schedule.

The current space in that slot that could go to the Doral event is The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which could then move to May to form a bigger battery of Texas events after the PGA Championship, rather than a Lone Star sandwich around the second men's major of the year.

The Blue Monster has been a host site for LIV Golf since the concept started in 2022, hosting the team championship finale for two years running before becoming somewhat of a LIV Golf major venue. This year, Doral hosted as a tune-up for the Masters Tournament. Trump appeared at a function ahead of the tournament.

The Trump Organization, which owns and operates the multi-course Florida resort, has been receiving money from LIV Golf to host events at Trump-owned properties, including Doral and Trump National Bedminster, where Trump spends some weekends playing golf at his private New Jersey club. Doral is reportedly not on a draft 2026 LIV Golf schedule being circulated to players.

The PGA Tour ended a 50-year run of playing events at Doral after 2016, largely over sponsor reservations about continuing at the venue given Trump's comments as a Presidential candidate regarding immigrants. Curiously enough, the World Golf Championships event that had been staged at Doral then moved to Mexico City for the WGC-Mexico Championship. In an ironic twist, the PGA Tour's Mexico Open could be dropped from the schedule in 2026 to make way for this new event at the Trump-owned property.

The DP World Tour has also announced the creation of a new event played at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Nexo Championship will be played Aug. 7-10.

The 2022 PGA Championship was to be played at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. However, the event was moved to Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla., by the PGA of America, which is separate from the PGA Tour, in the wake of the attack on the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump also owns Trump Turnberry Resort, with its Ailsa Course considered one of the best links in the world. Turnberry last hosted the 2009 Open Championship, prior to Trump's purchase of the resort from Emirati interests in 2014. The R&A, which runs the British Open Championship, has cited Trump's ownership as part of a decision to not yet return to Turnberry with an Open. That spot in the Open rota has gone to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, which hosts again this week.
