Wyndham Clark nearly injured a volunteer after throwing his driver in anger in the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.
Clark was playing the par-4 16th hole -- the start of the difficult Green Mile closing stretch -- when he hit a poor tee shot. The tee shot wound up in a fairway bunker.
So enraged by the tee shot, the 2022 US Open champion quickly snapped and threw his driver low on the ground back behind him. The driver hit tournament sponsor signage behind the tee box, and it made a loud sound that was picked up by cameras.
The driver also got dangerously close to a volunteer marshal behind the tee box, whose job it is to indicate the direction of the drive. The club also may have struck, or just missed, a TrackMan launch monitor unit that sits behind the tee box to track data about each tee shot. The TrackMan launch monitor costs somewhere in the area of $35,000.
Here's a look from behind the tee box, where Clark's driver hit the signage and nearly hit the volunteer marshal.
Clark ultimately made bogey on the 16th hole, finishing with a closing 3-over 74 and finished in a tie for 50th place on 4-over 288.
On Monday, Clark took to social media to apologize for the incident.
