Rory McIlroy isn't going to win the 2025 PGA Championship. In fact, the Masters champion and newest member of the career Grand Slam club was lucky to make the weekend after a weird few days at Quail Hollow.
That didn't stop a PGA Championship volunteer from risking his job, his clothing and his dignity to get Rory McIlroy's ball from out of a water hazard.
McIlroy made a bogey 5 on the drivable par-4 14th hole in the final round on Sunday, finding the water with his tee shot on the hole. He dropped after taking a penalty stroke, then hit his third shot to about 6 feet before missing the par putt.
After McIlroy and his group was finished with the hole, a PGA Championship volunteer was caught on the ESPN broadcast going down to the edge of the water, where McIlroy's ball went in the hazard. He got down on the ground so he could inch toward the ball, and then he fished the ball out of the water.

The best part, though, of the whole thing was the drone camera operator for ESPN and CBS filming the volunteer doing the whole thing.
The volunteer probably will be relieved of their duties for getting caught and embarrassing themselves like this, but that guy earned that golf ball.
