President Donald Trump presented with statue at his golf club commemorating surviving assassination attempt

At Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday, President Donald Trump was presented with a new statue of himself that commemorated his surviving an assassination attempt at a Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign stop on July 13, 2024.

The statue sits near the clubhouse at the golf club closest to Trump's Mar-a-Lago club and resort, where he predominantly lived after exiting the White House after his first term. He has also spent most weekends of his second term at Mar-a-Lago, taking the short drive over to Trump International to play golf most weekend days.

A would-be assassin took aim at then candidate Trump in the rally from atop a building surrounding the event venue. Trump was struck in the right ear by one of eight bullets fired from an AR-15 assault rifle by Thomas Matthew Crooks. Secret Service quickly surrounded Trump and sought to bring him to safety after Trump hid behind the lecturn on stage. However, as Trump was being escorted away, Trump raised his right hand with a closed fist, yelling "Fight!" with blood across his ear and face.

Trump was taken to a hospital, treated and released the next day.

Trump has used that image in a variety of campaign and promotional materials, and now that moment is commemorated in a statue at one of his golf properties.

Sticker Mule CEO and congressional candidate Anthony Constantino presented Trump with the seven-foot bronze statue, called "The Defiance Moment."

"The President was in a happy, joking mood which was great to see,” said Constantino in a statement.

The piece was made by Colorado-based sculpter George Lundeen, who has also fashioned statues of Benjamin Franklin at the University of Pennsylvania and the Apollo 11 Monument at Kennedy Space Center.
