Masters winners get so many perks and benefits -- financial and otherwise -- from winning at Augusta National Golf Club. They get the green jacket, the trophy, a lifetime invitation, entry to all the other majors for five years, a five-year PGA Tour exemption and so much more.
However, in 2025, Augusta National decided to make things more lucrative for not only the Masters champion but also for the players who miss the cut.
This year, the club announced a $1 million purse increase over last year to $21 million. In announcing that, the club shared the winner's portion is $4.2 million, representing 20 percent of the purse. That's an increase over the old payout formula, which previously paid 18 percent of the purse to the winner. That represents 42 percent of that $1 million purse increase.
The vast majority of the rest actually goes to the players who miss the cut at the Masters. The club has increased the prize money for players who miss the cut from $10,000 in recent memory to $25,000-- an increase of 150 percent.
Making the field at the Masters Tournament is a tremendous honor, and the club wanted to recognize professionals who took the trip down Magnolia Lane. This is, by far, the most money paid to professionals who miss the cut in a major championship. The US Open is next best at $10,000. However, the other three men's majors have 156-player fields and have more players make the cut, to either the top 60 or top 70 and ties through two rounds. That means there are more players missing the cut.
In 2025, the Masters field started with 95 players, and 53 made the weekend -- all professionals. That means 42 players missed the cut, including the five amateurs in the field. All told, 37 pros will get $25,000 for completing the first two rounds at Augusta National. That's not a bad consolation prize for a chance to play in the first major of the year.
