Donald Trump claims win in senior club championship at his West Palm Beach, Fla., golf club

President Donald Trump was particularly happy on the plane ride aboard Air Force One from Florida back to Washington, D.C., despite another disturbing pre-market open on Sunday night.

Trump returned to the capital from a long weekend in Florida, first attending the Saudi-owned LIV Golf event that was played at his Trump National Doral resort outside of Miami before heading to his Mar-a-Lago club.

Trump played in his senior club championship at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, which Trump apparently co-won with a member at the club. Political ally and online provocateur Laura Loomer shared a photo of Trump participating in the trophy ceremony with the co-champion. The member apparently agreed with Trump to share the titleist honors rather than having a playoff after a tie.

Speaking to the press on the flight back to Washington, Trump said he was happy with his performance.

“Very good because I won,” Trump said. “It’s good to win. You heard I won, right? Did you hear I won? Just to back it up, you were there, I won. I like to win.”

Trump has come under fire for playing golf while the American and global economies have been upended by the prospect of broader so-called reciprocal tariffs. Trump Administration representative and Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett said some 50 countries have called The White House, seeking to work out country-by-country trade deals with Trump.

However, the stock market remains skeptical about the future of the tariffs and the success of the negotiations, as well as the long-term implications of the tariffs on the American economy and global demand. The Dow Jones Industrial Average pre-open immediately shot down nearly 2,400 points just after 6 p.m. Eastern on Sunday night, while the Hong Kong Hang Seng index finished the Monday session down more than 12 percent.
