The 2025 The Players Championship marks the 12th event of the season on the PGA Tour, with the major-like event unfolding from Thursday through Sunday at TPC Sawgrass' Players Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
This week's PGA Tour event has a $25 million purse, with a 144-player field competing in the tournament.
The winner's share of the 2025 The Players Championship prize pool is at $4,500,000, with the second-place finisher taking home $2,725,000 in PGA Tour prize money, provided they finish in solo second place and there no need to split prize money among ties.
The Players Championship winner takes home 18 percent of the purse to the winner, and how much each PGA Tour player earns is guaranteed down to the last-place professional player.
The The Players Championship field is headed by Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and more.
The tournament starts on Thursday with 144 players, and a cut will be made this week after two rounds to the top 65 players and ties. Every professional player in the field is paid for completing the event. The PGA Tour typically adding money to the purse if more than 65 professionals make the cut to ensure all players are paid.
While money is crucial to a professional golfer's livelihood, they also benefit from FedEx Cup points and Official World Golf Ranking points that can earn them bonus money and entry into future events, like major championships.
The winner of this event will get 750 FedEx Cup points, as will be practice for all major championships and The Players in 2025.
The champion also 80 Official World Golf Ranking points -- with the PGA Tour naming this event as its flagship.
Nearly all players who complete four rounds this week will earn both FedEx Cup points and Official World Golf Ranking points.
