Maverick McNealy is a contender rapidly moving up the leaderboard in the final round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour's Signature event played at Torrey Pines' South Course near San Diego. While Ludvig Aberg seeks another huge PGA Tour win, Maverick McNealy could have a huge breakthrough.

McNealy is 29 years old, and he is in the field at Tiger Woods' tournament because he has status on the PGA Tour after finishing in the top 50 in FedEx Cup Fall points list last season.

For McNealy, his journey to the PGA Tour is a remarkable story.

McNealy was born in Stanford, Californi. He played college golf at Stanford University before making his way into the world of professional golf. He lives in Las Vegas. His father, Scott, is the co-founder of Sun Microsystems.

McNealy is hitting his prime

Maverick McNealy has won at every level, including as an amateur and after he turned pro in 2017. He represented the United States on the Walker Cup team in 2015 and 20137

McNealy has won once on the PGA Tour, breaking through in November 2024 with a win at The RSM Classic.

Entering this week, McNealy was ranked 25th in FedEx Cup points and ranked 26th in the Official World Golf Ranking. He earned his way into this event through his status on the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Fall standings from last season.

In his personal life, McNealy is married to his wife, Maya.

What a win this week on the PGA Tour means

With a win today, McNealy would earn the benefits of being a PGA Tour winner, including a two-year PGA Tour exemption, and the win comes with berths into the 2025 Masters and 2025 PGA Championship. And, according to the 2025 The Genesis Invitational payout, he would win $4 million to top it all off.
