Tiger Woods has withdrawn from this week's The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Courses near San Diego, California, as he continues to grieve the passing of his mother, Kultida.
Woods' mother passed away a week ago, with Woods sharing the unexpected news on social media. At that evening's TGL match in West Palm Beach, Florida, the league paid tribute to Woods' mother, who was there for her son's debut match in the league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy.
In a statement, Woods said, "I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing."

Woods had agreed to play in the 72-player field, using an exemption afforded to him last year as an active PGA Tour player with at least 80 wins. He is the only player that matches that criteria, giving him access to the PGA Tour's Signature events whenever he chooses or is able to play.
Woods is also tournament host, with his TGR Live running the operations. The tournament was moved from The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, near Los Angeles, in response to the devastating recent wildfires in the area. The Pacific Palisades fire was particularly destructive in the community, though the golf club was not damaged directly by the fires.
Jake Knapp replaces Woods in the field, which has a minimum size of 72 players. Beau Hossler is now the first alternate for the $20 million event, which will be played on the South Course at Torrey Pines for all four rounds in this event that has a 36-hole cut to the top 50 players and ties, as well as any player within 10 shots of the lead.
