The PGA Tour has made the decision to move February's 2025 The Genesis Invitational away from The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, in response to the ongoing situation with wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
The February 13-16 tournament, which is a PGA Tour Signature event run together with the Tiger Woods-owned TGR Live, will be played at what the PGA Tour described as an "alternate location" that has yet to be announced.
The full statement reads:
"The PGA Tour’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in greater Los Angeles. We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.
"In collaboration with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club and TGR Live, and out of respect for the unfolding situation, we have determined that The Genesis Invitational 2025 will be played at an alternate location the week of Feb. 10-16. A venue update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.
"The PGA Tour is identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts."
The Pacific Palisades wildfire nearly got to the grounds of The Riviera Country Club, but the club did not suffer significant damage. However, the town of Pacific Palisades is dealing with overwhelming damage and destruction from the fire, as are other areas impacted by different wildfires fueled by dry conditions and, at times, hurricane-force Santa Ana winds.
The 2025 PGA Tour schedule has the WM Phoenix Open at the PGA Tour-owned TPC Scottsdale as the tournament played prior to The Genesis Invitational. The venue could host the PGA Tour in back-to-back weeks, with all tournament infrastructure already in place.
However, there are venues in southern California that could also host on brief notice based on quality of conditions and length of course.
Regardless of the alternate venue selected, the field will be playing for a $20 million purse in the event.
