Charlie Woods made his first-ever hole-in-one at the PNC Championship with dad Tiger watching

Charlie Woods made his first-ever hole-in-one on Sunday at the 2024 PNC Championship, helping Team Woods early in the final round of the 36-hole scramble event.

Charlie and his dad, Tiger, were playing the par-3 fourth hole at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club's Grande Lakes course in Orlando, Fla., when the younger Woods hit a cut 7-iron from 175 yards. The ball was on a laser-like line, with the ball landing just short of the cup, the rolling in for an ace.

Neither Charlie, nor Tiger, saw the ball go in the hole from the tee. Charlie learned about it once he was told by someone else that the ball had gone in the hole. He started celebrating, and that's when his father realized his son had made an ace. Tiger wasn't even looking at the moment, not expecting his son to make the shot.

It was a moment for father and son and sister, as Charlie's sister, Sam Woods, is caddying for her dad in the tournament. That's not often that happens in golf, much less in a tournament broadcast on international TV.

In the scramble format, both team members hit a tee shot on each hole, and then they pick the best tee shot from which to continue the hole. In this case, though, the best tee shot was in the hole, so that meant the team recorded a hole-in-one on the fourth.

The hole-in-one propelled Team Woods into the lead early in the final round of the tournament, getting them to 17-under total.

Team Woods shot 13-under 59 in the first round of the tournament, but they'll likely need to shoot close to the same again on Sunday if they want to win the family tournament for the first time. Last year, the Woods family finished in fifth place in the event out of 20 teams.
