The RBC Canadian Open, one of golf's oldest championships, is permanently changing its logo to reflect one of its most important moments.
Golf Canada, which puts on the PGA Tour-sanctioned event, is making the special logo it used for the 2024 edition of the event into the permanent logo. The now-permanent logo was developed to celebrate the 2023 playoff win of Nick Taylor, who defeated Tommy Fleetwood on the back of a 72-foot, 6-inch eagle putt on the fourth hole of extra play at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In making the putt, Taylor became the first Canadian to win his national championship since Pat Fletcher, who won the RBC Canadian Open at Point Grey in 1954.
The logo used in 2024 -- and originally intended to be used for just one year -- and now going forward features a silhouette of Taylor throwing his putter from his hands in shock and joy at the moment.

“This recognition from Golf Canada, my partners at RBC, and everyone involved in the RBC Canadian Open is humbling beyond words. I was flattered by last year’s commemorative tournament logo, but for that to now become the permanent brand identity of our national open is truly an incredible honour,” said Nick Taylor. “I’m proud to share this with my family who make these special moments possible.”
The Canadian crowd went absolutely nuts in the moment, including Taylor's best friend on Tour, Adam Hadwin, who was tackled by tournament security that didn't realize he was a PGA Tour player who just happened to be in street clothes and already standing by the putting green. Some golf fans argued that silhouette should have been somehow incorporated into the logo, but Golf Canada probably made the right choice in not doing that.
“We are incredibly proud to forever immortalize this signature winning moment in Canadian sports history as the permanent brand identity and logo mark for the RBC Canadian Open,” said Tim McLaughlin, Chief Marketing Officer, Golf Canada.
“The original plan was for this to be a one-year tribute, however, the putter toss logo was so well received that we felt celebrating Nick Taylor and this signature moment permanently on the core championship mark was an easy choice. The putter toss logo has now been emblazoned on the RBC Canadian Open trophy signifying the permanence of the change.”
