Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie, will team up for the fifth time to play in next week's PNC Championship on the PGA Tour Champions, the tournament announced Tuesday.
The Woods' will be one of 20 two-person teams competing in the event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., in a 36-hole scramble event. The event, formerly known as the Father-Son Challenge, is a family-based event with the pros teaming up with someone in their family, often their children, to compete.
The Woods team finished fifth place in 2023 and has a best-ever finish of solo second in 2021.
“I’m very excited to head back to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie," said Tiger Woods. "Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you're surrounded by friends and family.”
Woods can use a cart to compete in this event, so it will be easier on his body than playing in a PGA Tour event, where he walks. Woods has a sixth back surgery in September, a microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back.
On Sept. 13, Woods tweeted about the surgery, including saying, "The surgery went smoothly, and I'm hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season," he said. "I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to back to normal life activities, including golf."
Woods was host of, but did not play in, his Hero World Challenge last week in the Bahamas. Asked then when he might be able to play again on the PGA Tour, Woods said there was "a long way to go."
While Tiger may not have the full physical capabilites to compete, his son has a driver ball speed of 180 mph, which puts him above the average on the PGA Tour.
The event will be broadcast on NBC over the weekend, with 19 other teams looking to take down the title as well, including the debuting Team Couples and Team Immelman.
