Scotty Cameron Concept X putters: Newport 2s, with wings for higher MOI and confidence

Scotty Cameron is always dreaming up new putter designs, trying to take what he knows and adds things from his design brain to make shapes that could offer more benefits to more players.

That's what he has come up with here in the Concept X series, dubbed a pair of "experimental prototypes" which blend the look of the classic Newport 2 head with stability-increasing technologies.

There are two models in the Concept X series, the CX-01 and CX-02, and each features wings on the back of the flange which provide stability and forgiveness. Each style, produced in limited quantities, features new dual-zone vibration dampening technology in the face-sole combo for better sound and feel, while allowing more total weight to be pushed to the outside edges of the head to increase moment of inertia (MOI).

The two putters are distinguished by their neck shapes. The CX-01 has a “Nuckle Neck” with one shaft of offset, while the CX-02 is designed with a new low slant “Joint Neck” with more toe hang.

Both putters sport an anti-glare Stealth Gray finish, promoting an industrial, experimental aesthetic.

"You get a calm feeling like when you play a mallet. So, you get the best of a blade and the best of a mallet in one. It has a very elegant, high-end, industrial look," Cameron said in a release. "At address, after a few putts, the wings almost disappear and it’s like looking down at a blade."

The Scotty Cameron Concept X putters will be available Aug. 31 for $600 each.
