Matt Kuchar is going to carry two major tour cards in 2018, as he has added European Tour affiliate membership to his PGA Tour membership.

Kuchar made the announcement Jan. 17 in the United Arab Emirates, where he is playing in this week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

"It's been a passion of mine to explore and see the world, and I'll now be joining the European Tour as an Affiliate Member, which is very exciting," he said.

As an affiliate member, Kuchar is not required to make a minimum number of starts, unlike full members which have to appear in five non-major or non-WGC European Tour starts. Jon Rahm used this membership category in 2017, and now he's a full member after notching two wins on the campaign.

By taking affiliate membership, Kuchar can accrue Race to Dubai points, giving him a potential opportunity to earn his way into season-ending events while the PGA Tour is in its fall schedule. So long as Kuchar remains in the top 50 in the world, which he should have no problem doing this year, he is also eligible to be in the first handful of Rolex Series events, which are the European Tour's most lucrative wholly-run tournaments.
