Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is a pure athlete. He played football at Miami. He won the World Heavyweight title 10 times in WWE. His lifting routine is obscene.
And now you can add "long driver" to The Rock's long list of talents.
Johnson was filming for his HBO show, "Ballers," and apparently had some scenes on the golf course. The Rock tried his hand at smashing a drive as far as he can, and he came damn close to the longest drive ever recorded in a professional golf event (that wasn't off a cart path).
The Rock claims to have hit a 490-yard drive, though there's a very good chance he's kidding. However, it only takes on. And if he actually did hit a drive 490, that's astounding for a guy who doesn't practice the long-driving technique, which is different from the standard golf swing in terms of bottoming out.
We're going to need to see a little video here, but there's no reason not to believe The Great One.
Jordan Spieth got a shout out from The Rock, who also has an endorsement deal Under Armour, but Johnson used a Callaway Golf GBB Epic driver in the show, supplied by the company at HBO's request.
The longest drive ever measured is credited to Mike Austin, who hit a 515-yard drive on Sept. 25, 1974 in the National Seniors Open Championship, the pre-cursor to the U.S. Senior Open. Austin, who was 64, hit the drive on a 450-yard par 4 at Desert Rose Golf Club in Las Vegas. The club was at 2,000 feet above sea level and the estimated wind on the hole that day was a 35mph helping wind.
