If there's a knock on Bandon Dunes, it's that getting there can be time-consuming. (Isn't that the point, though, to be away from everything?)
In the earlier days of the resort, golfers will fly into Portland, then drive down the coastline to the Bend area and on to Bandon Dunes.
However, if you're willing to make a little bit of a layover, then you can get what amounts to a direct flight into Bandon country. United Airlines offers direct flights to North Bend, Ore.'s Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (OTH) from Denver and San Francisco. PenAir also offers direct flights to North Bend from Portland's airport.
Denver and San Francisco are obviously major international airports that are hubs or important people-routing stops for major airlines, including United. United's service to North Bend is seasonal, running twice-per-week flights on Sundays and Wednesdays from June 11 to Oct. 4.
It is absolutely silly to not have a reason to go to Bandon Dunes, and these direct routes take away any excuses. However, it's important to note that the weather at the airport can be dicey, meaning there are often cancellations and delays. In that case, you may find yourself in a cab or a one-way car rental up to Portland to get home.
