Webb Simpson pulled out of this week's The Players Championship, and it was for one of the best reasons.

Simpson, who missed the cut last week at the Wells Fargo Championship on his home Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, decided to stay home to be with his wife, Dowd, as she gave birth to the couple's fourth child, a daughter named Mercy. Mercy follows the couple's son James and daughters Willow and Wyndham.

The 30-year-old 2012 U.S. Open winner is ranked 90th in the world, but he's still in search of his first top-1o finish of the season.

Simpson was replaced in The Players field by Aaron Baddeley.
