After 25 years, Mike Tirico is leaving ESPN for NBC Sports.

Sports Business Daily reports Tirico will leave the Worldwide Leader when his contract ends sometime this summer. It's unclear when Tirico will start appearing on NBC Sports telecasts.

NBC Sports was rumored to be making a strong play for Tirico, who has been the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football, as well for the second team for ESPN's NBA coverage. Tirico also has called college football, including ESPN Radio's call of college football's national championship game and some Grand Slam tennis. Tirico was also the lead man for ESPN's coverage of the Masters and Open Championship, a property which NBC will broadcast for the first time in 2016.

It's unclear the extent to which NBC will use Tirico, though SBD reported the network will have him take over as play-by-play man for the new Thursday Night Football package, which NBC will split with CBS in 2016. Tirico is also expected to play a significant role in NBC's coverage of the Olympics.
