Ariya Jutanugarn tried to give it a go at the Wegmans LPGA Championship with a shoulder injury, but decided Wednesday she could not compete just outside of Rochester, N.Y.
An update was posted on her Facebook page on Tuesday said an injury sustained in a practice round would force her to withdraw. She held out until Wednesday at Locust Point, with her arm in a sling, before deciding to officially withdraw.
The 17-year-old Thai phenom injured her right shoulder during a practice round with her sister, Moriya, on Monday. According to Golf Channel, Ariya was jogging down a hill off a tee box when she slipped and fell at Locust Hill C.C., site of the tour's second major of the year.
In five LPGA starts this season as a non-member, she has not finished worse than fourth. She would be sixth on the tour's money list if she was a member.
Ariya Jutanugarn had a chance to win the Honda LPGA Thailand, but lost a two-shot lead on the final hole. In March, Ariya won the Lalla Meryem Cup on the Ladies European Tour.
