Yahoo announces it will not have fantasy golf in 2016, changes mind



Fantasy golf players appeared to be destined to have one less place to play in 2016, with Yahoo Sports announcing it is "not planning" to run a fantasy golf game in 2016.

Yahoo did not offer reasons or rationale for the decision. Then, suddenly, Yahoo changed its mind, offering leagues for the 2016 year.

Among the potential factors that may have influenced the original call is the rise of daily fantasy sports, particularly with DraftKings offering weekly PGA Tour games. In addition, the unpaid fantasy golf marketplace has expanded in the last 18 months, with the PGA Tour's introduction of an enhanced version of its fantasy platform. Golf Channel also has a significant portion of the fantasy marketplace.
