NBC and Golf Channel commentator Mark Rolfing will not be on the networks' coverage of the three remaining FedEx Cup playoff events or the Presidents Cup as Rolfing begins treatment for salivary gland cancer.
Rolfing is working with a team at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to battle this rare form of cancer.
In August, Rolfing announced he had a malignant growth removed from his cheek the week of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
"I underwent a procedure to remove a malignant growth from my left cheek area," Rolfing said in a statement during the PGA Championship. "I'm happy to report the surgery was successful and the prognosis is good. (His wife) Debi and I are overwhelmed by the support we have received and would like to thank everyone for their well-wishes."
Rolfing, who began his commentary career with ESPN in 1986 and has been on his second stint with NBC since 1997, hopes to return for Golf Channel's coverage of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, played at Kapalua in his home state of Hawaii.
