Every putter designer is trying to figure out a way to make a putter more forgiving and help keep putts closer to the intended line on mishits. With their new Frontline series, Cleveland believes they have a different, compelling answer.
In the Frontline series, available Sept. 13, Cleveland is moving the center of gravity further forward with two pieces of Metal Injection Molded (MIM'd) tungsten weights in the face of the putter. It's a contrast from high-moment-of-inertia putters which place the weight wide and back in the head, while simultaneously moving the CG back as well. Cleveland claims the more forward CG will lead to more accurate putts.
The face insert is called Speed Optimized Face Technology (SOFT), which is designed to normalize ball speed across the face so distance is more consistent regardless of impact point. Each putter in the line has a SOFT insert pattern designed specifically for it.
The Frontline series has four models, including three mallet options (Elevado, Cero and Iso) that feature Cleveland’s 2135 Technology, which is an alignment aid designed to help a player get the putter into position regardless of where they stand over the putt. There are also two hosel options in the mallets: a single bend for straighter putting arcs and a slant neck for golfers with more arc in their stroke. A Frontline blade-style head is also available.
Cleveland's Frontline putters are available in 33-, 34- and 35-inch models, with the Frontline 4.0 blade at $180 and the three mallet options coming in at $200 each.
