With the PGA Tour deciding to offer a one-and-done fantasy golf platform, as well the increasing number of private one-and-done leagues, we here at Golf News Net will offer weekly one-and-done fantasy golf picks separate from our weekly fantasy golf rankings and picks.
We began with the 2018 Safeway Open, continue this week at the 2019 British Open Championship and will continue through to the Tour Championship in Atlanta in August 2019, keeping track of our picks all along the way.
Before we begin, if you're not familiar with game, read this primer on the one-and-done fantasy golf format, and welcome to the game. It really is as easy as it sounds, but you have to take a long-term view of the season to figure out how best to use players.
We are running well in the last 6 weeks or so, relying on the young guns in the weaker events post-US Open with solid results. However, we are now at the final major of the year, with The Open -- the British Open, whatever -- now being Glory's Last Shot.
We have an unknown venue in Royal Portrush, at least for 96 percent of the field, and certainly everyone in a major championship situation. We want to rely on quality here, but we've also used some great names this year.
2019 British Open Championship One and Done picks
- Jon Rahm: Rahm won the Irish Open and seems to have a thing for golf on the Emerald Isle.
- Adam Scott: Scott has played so well this season, and yet it seems like no one's willing to give him a big nod.
- Rory McIlroy: We can't use him here this week, but the guy has held the club course record (61) for 14 years.
- Patrick Cantlay: Again, we've used Cantlay, but his two top-10 finishes in the majors this year kinda blend aspects of Royal Portrush together.
My pick this week will be Jon Rahm. I just got a feeling this could be his breakthrough.
