Jerry Kelly knew he needed to make an eagle 3 on the par-5 seventh at Hualalai Golf Club in Hawaii.

The defending champion at the PGA Tour Champions season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai was 1 under through his first six holes and in danger of falling out of touch of leader David Toms. So, he wailed away at his second shot with a fairway wood. And it didn't look like it was going to go well.

Kelly fanned his shot way right. He turned away in horror, realizing his shot was probably going to wind up in the course's lava rock surrounds and potentially load to a high number that would drop him out of contention.

Then Kelly got the absolute craziest set of bounces you can probably imagine. The ball bounced twice off the lava rocks, then hit the cart path, then struck a fan and caromed off him onto the green to naturally set up an eagle putt.

At that point, there's no other way to complete the story than to make the eagle 3.

Kelly finished T-3 in the end, three shots behind winner Tom Lehman, who caught and passed Toms.
