Hosung Choi to debut unique fisherman swing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Hosung Choi grabbed a place in many golf fans' hearts in 2018 with his dramatic, unique fisherman-style swing and his fall-over follow through. Choi nabbed a big Japan Golf Tour at the Casio World Open win toward the end of the year, and he's now ranked 200th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Now the 45-year-old Korean will make his PGA Tour debut in three weeks at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The PGA Tour and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am confirmed reports from Korean outlets claiming Choi would land a spot in the old Crosby Clambake, which is played out on three courses over four days, including host Pebble Beach Golf Links. This invitation will mean majority American golf audiences will be exposed to Choi for the first time, and it's hard to imagine them not falling in love.

Asian Tour folks say Choi has what's dubbed a "fisherman" swing because he hits the ball and then casts the reel by picking his trail foot off the ground after impact. However, there have been plenty of words used to describe his swing, including some comparisons to Arnold Palmer's wildman follow-through.

Choi caught the attention of American golf fans in part through pro Tee-K Kelly, who posted to Twitter a video of Hosung Choi's golf swing in June during a Golf Channel broadcast of the Asian Tour's Kolon Korea Open. Choi was in second place through 54 holes, so he was getting plenty of air time.

Not only is Choi's action fun to watch, he's enthusiastic and emotional about practically every shot he plays. There's lot of fist-pumping and emotion. It's a good time, and now we'll get to see it during American waking hours.
