Adam Scott is in the final pairing on Sunday at the 2018 PGA Championship, and he trails Brooks Koepka by just two shots. He's earned a spot there by carrying two putters in his bag this week.
That's right. The Aussie winner of the 2013 Masters is using two putters this week at Bellerive, at the same time.
Since the anchored putting stroke ban took effect in 2016, Scott has struggled to figure out a best way to putt. He's used a long putter without anchoring it to his chest or chin. He's used a traditional putter. He's used a longer counterbalanced putter. Nothing seems to have worked.
That has led to Scott taking some desperate measures, and he has gone to taking the step of having two putters in the bag. He uses a shorter putter for long putts, and he uses the long putter for shorter putts. That's not to say that it's a perfect formula, but it does seem to have worked for Scott so far.
Since a golfer can only have 14 clubs in their bag, Scott is sacrificing having another club in the bag so he can carry two putters. However, under the Rules of Golf, a player is not limited in the number of certain types of clubs they can carry. Hypothetically, a golfer could carry 14 putters or 14 drivers or 14 7-irons.
