An armed gunman was shot, subdued and arrested by police on Friday evening after exchanging fire with officers shortly after arriving at Trump National Doral resort near Miami.
The man, identified by the Miami Herald as 42-year-old Jonathan Oddi, walked into the resort, draping a lobby counter with an American flag taken from a flagpole and ultimately exchanging gunfire with police.
Miami-Dade County police were made aware of an active shooter situation around 1:30 a.m., after Oddi has goaded a security officer into calling police and shooting his weapon into the ceiling and hanging chandeliers. Officers arrived and almost immediate exchanged gunfire, which resulted in a minor injury to an officer and Oddi, a South African national who became a US citizen in 2017, being taken down and arrested after a brief foot chase through the looby and up a flight of steps.
“He was yelling and spewing some information about President Trump and that’s what we know so far. And he had an American flag that he did drape over the counter,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said, according to the Associated Press.
The Herald cites a law-enforcement source saying Oddi complained about Trump, former President Barack Obama and rapper P. Diddy while on the way to the hospital.
U.S. Secret Service was on the scene, and the FBI was approaching. Secret Service agents said they were working with all of the authorities on hand investigating. Entrances were blocked and police caution tape was extended across the main entrance gate. President Trump was obviously not at the facility at the time.

Doral, purchased by Trump in a bankruptcy sale for $150 million in 2012, hosted the PGA Tour for 60 years until the Tour moved away from the property in 2016, bringing the World Golf Championships event played at the resort to Mexico City.
