The LPGA has been on the losing end of the never-ending battle between golf and Mother Nature this week. With the first two days of the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic wiped out thanks to rain and high winds in The Colony, Texas, the event has been shortened to 36 holes played over Saturday and Sunday.
The field was finally able to get on Old American Golf Club later on Friday afternoon when, at 3:30 p.m. Central, tee times for the first round began. However, with the obvious time constraints, only four groups were able to complete Round 1 on Friday.
With more bad weather in the forecast for Saturday morning, LPGA officials decided to try to complete the event as a 36-hole tournament over the remaining two days. Saturday play starts at 8:30 a.m. Central with the hope of starting the second round at 3:30 p.m., though the rain in the forecast may prevent that. The goal is to somehow get all 36 holes in by Sunday night, when sunset is around 8:15 p.m. Central.
If the now-slated 36 holes are not finished by Sunday night, the tournament will spill over into Monday.
