Bernhard Langer is the reigning Senior PGA champion for one month longer, but he won't be the defending champion at the end of May at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
That's because Langer will not be competing in the second major of the PGA Tour Champions season. Langer made the trip to Michigan for the event's media day, relaying he won't be competing so he can attend his son's high school graduation.
“I won’t be able to defend my title this year because my son graduates from high school that very same weekend,” he said. “Family comes first in my life, so I have to be there to celebrate.”
Langer's son, Jason, will play golf for the University of Pennsylvania in the fall. The Langers live in the Boca Raton, Fla., area.
Langer won the 2017 Senior PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C., in northern Virginia by holding off Vijay Singh. It was his 32nd PGA Tour Champions win and set the mark for the most senior majors, surpassing Gary Player.
