You may have noticed Jonathan Coachman isn't at the announce table for this week's Monday Night Raw, and that he's been replaced on the WWE flagship show by five-time WCW World Champion Booker T.
This isn't a permanent shake-up to the WWE announce team for Raw. Booker T is just filling in for The Coach because The Coach is working on Golf Channel. That's right, Coachman is doing play-by-play for World Long Drive events on Golf Channel in 2018, and the first event is April 23's Clash in the Canyon in Mesquite, Nev.
There will be several other World Love Drive events throughout the spring, summer and fall. Some of those will fall on a Monday, when Coachman would normally be calling Monday Night Raw with Corey Graves and Michael Cole. The other dates on the 2018 World Long Drive schedule on Golf Channel include May 14-15, June 4-5, Aug. 12-13 and Aug. 30 through Sept. 5 for the world championship. May 14, June 4, Aug. 13 and Sept. 1 are Mondays.
Coachman explained this is part of his deal with WWE, allowing him to explore other avenues after a career at ESPN which saw him often behind the anchor desk for "Sports Center."
“When I left ESPN my vision was to try and bring different, diverse groups of people together with a common love of sports and sports entertainment," Coachman said on Twitter. "This is first step. It’s about fun and enjoyment. Very simple. Everybody wins."
