A number of players in this week's 2018 The Honda Classic field have paid respect and honor to the victims and survivors of the attack by wearing red ribbons on their clothing at PGA National.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were among those stars and golf professionals wearing the ribbons, mostly on hats. Woods even spent some time with a teenage fan who is a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The PGA Tour's Honda Classic is played each year at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., which is located in Broward County and a 30-minute drive from Stoneman Douglas, where a 19-year-old gunman murdered 17 people in a tragic school massacre.

Many students from Stoneman Douglas have come out since the massacre, demanding answers from elected officials and seeking change to Florida and federal gun laws. The students have sought a variety of measures, including a Florida ban on guns termed "assault weapons," akin to the federal assault weapons ban from 1994-2004.

Florida Governor Rick Scott has proposed a ban on bump stocks, which use a gun's recoil to make a semi-automatic gun into a crude automatic-style gun, as well an increase in the minimum age from 18 to 21 to buy a "long gun," correlating to the current state law limiting the purchase of handguns to those over the age of 21.
