Wayne Gretzky withdrew from the final round of the 2018 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, leaving son-ish-in-law Dustin Johnson to fly solo in the Sunday finale at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Gretzky pulled out with a back injury, so he won't be inside the ropes as Johnson's battles in the final group with Ted Potter Jr. in search of a second PGA Tour title in 2018. It's unfortunate, as the Johnson-Gretzky duo were in fourth place, four shots behind the leading team of Kevin Streelman and NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Under the rules of the pro-am competition, Johnson can't go on by himself and complete the Pro-Am competition.

(Though he probably should, especially since he's playing solo with no strokes. If he wins the Pro-Am competition playing 18 of 72 holes relying only on his score, he earned it.)

With the Gretzky-Johnson duo out, another of the teams tied for 18th place after 54 holes made it to the final round. Without Gretzky pulling out, four of the teams tied at 19 under through three rounds would have been forced out of the competition through a match of cards.

For his part, Potter will be in the final group with co-leader Johnson, and he'll have his Pro-Am partner Sean Kell alongside. They're six adrift of the leaders.
