Yahoo has killed its fantasy golf game, won’t offer it in 2018

Yahoo's fantasy golf game is officially dead. The company, one of the leaders in fantasy sports, has chosen not to maintain a fantasy golf product for calendar 2018.

On their fantasy golf website, Yahoo says, "We will not be offering Fantasy Golf in 2018. We thank you very much for playing our game over the years and hope you will continue to play our other fantasy games."

So, that's it.

It's unclear why Yahoo killed fantasy golf, but it's probably due to a lack of players. Some regular Yahoo players suspected less than 50,000 signed up to play in 2017.

Yahoo had actually said it would stop offering fantasy golf starting in 2016. However, Yahoo changed course at the last second and offered games for each of the last two years. Likely between the decline in their players, the flock toward daily fantasy offerings at DraftKings and FanDuel, as well general changes in the fantasy marketplace, Yahoo pretty much had no choice but to cut their fantasy golf format.

For Yahoo fantasy golf players looking for alternatives that are not daily fantasy, the PGA Tour and Golf Channel offer good games, though they're not quite in the same style as Yahoo.
