The Ryder Cup will be played at The Olympic Club in 2032, potentially meaning prime time play for the east coast of the United States.
That's because, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, The Olympic Club has switched allegiances to the PGA of America from the USGA and will host the 2028 PGA Championship and 2032 Ryder Cup.
According to the Chronicle report, the USGA had offered the 2027 US Open to Olympic in hopes it would host for the sixth time. However, contract negotiations reportedly stalled, apparently opening the door for the PGA of America to make a more appealing pitch concerning the PGA Championship-Ryder Cup combo. The USGA recently announced Pebble Beach would host the 2027 US Open, slightly ahead of its typical 9- to 10-year cycle of hosting the national championship.
Olympic last held the US Open in 2012 -- the one won by Webb Simpson and interrupted by Jungle Bird.
This will be the first Ryder Cup in California since 1959. The northern California golf scene is set to hold a number of huge tournaments in coming years, beginning with the 2019 US Open at Pebble, the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park, the 2025 Presidents Cup at Harding and 202, the 2028 PGA at Olympic, the 2032 Ryder Cup at Olympic.
The PGA of America, which hosts the Ryder Cup in 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032 and beyond, has venues for 2020 (Whistling Straits) and 2024 (Bethpage State Park, Black Course), and now 2032, but not 2028 yet.
The formal announcement is expected Nov. 8.
