Ecco goes bold with their new S-Drive golf shoes

Ecco is one of the originators of the hybrid golf shoe, which, as a category has blossomed in so many directions: minimalist, mimicking athletic shoes, using Boa closure systems, all kinds of different approaches. So, to stand out in nearly 2018 with a hybrid shoe offering, a company has to do something unique, which is increasingly difficult.

Ecco feels they've done that with the running shoe-inspired S-Drive line, a hybrid shoe with a lightweight, technical build to offer both flexibility and stability.

Visually, the first thing you'll notice is the closure setup. It's asymmetrical, which is uncommon in golf. However, it's designed to cradle the foot for comfort, with a hybrid of soft mesh and microfiber combining to form an upper rooted in comfort, though not necessarily all-conditions comfort. A Hydromax coating helps with material performance in poor weather and high-humidity conditions.

The removable Ortholite insole provides cushioning, optional extra width and antimicrobial traits.

On the stability front, a direct-injected TPU outsole offer scores of angles for gripping while a stability wing acts as a midsole extension to add more support.

Like with all Ecco golf shoes, the direct-injection process bonds the upper and outsole to create the one-piece construction without glue or stitching, which helps save weight.

The Ecco Golf S-Drive shoe will be available in several colorways for $160 per pair.
