Jordan Spieth whiffs on a shot, falls in bunker at 2017 Presidents Cup

Jordan Spieth is an amazing golfer, but he found himself in a situation on Friday at the 2017 Presidents Cup where he literally couldn't hit the ball.

Teaming with Patrick Reed in the Session 2 series of fourball matches, Spieth found himself with a precarious lie in the rough on the par-5 ninth hole. His ball was so close to a the edge of a bunker that he had to stand with his heels hanging barely over the bunker itself. Spieth made an earnest effort to last at the ball and advance it. However, he wasn't able to hit the ball. In fact, he whiffed. And in the resulting whiff, Spieth fell backwards and into the bunker.

Fortunately, Spieth had a good idea that he might lose his balance and fall in the bunker, so as he fell toward the sand, he made an effort to land it like a jump, which he did.

All told, it could have been way worse, as in some serious eating of sand. Instead, he seems OK, and the Americans are looking to make a back-nine charge to get another point for the Americans as they face Adam Hadwin and Hideki Matsuyama.
