Jaco Van Zyl is using a tiny Cleveland Golf putter at the 2017 Joburg Open, and it's got a lot of people confused where the rest of the blade is.
The South African is using a Cleveland Golf Smart Square Stubby, which is actually meant to be a training aid that helps golfers make better, more consistent contact with the center of the putter face. So the blade is basically the size of the ball, and it uses the Smart Square design to help a player align the ball-sized blade to get the ball started on the intended path toward the hole.

As fans realized Van Zyl was using an odd putter, there was some question if he was using legal equipment. The Stubby is fully compliant with USGA and R&A rules and can be used in competition just the same as on the practice green.
It's actually working out pretty well so far. Van Zyl is at 4-under 139 through two rounds and will play the weekend.
