Pro golfers go on birdie streaks all the time, but, every once in a while, they reel off so many consecutive birdies (and sometimes eagles) that they find their way into the record books.
Bernd Wiesberger was one of those players, making nine consecutive birdies in the second round of the 2017 Maybank Championship in Malaysia. He made the streak from the seventh through 15th holes of his round, en route to a 63. However, that streak does not count officially on the European Tour because the round was played with preferred lies.
On the PGA Tour, the record for the most consecutive birdies in a round belongs to Mark Calcavecchia, who posted nine consecutive birdies from holes 12-2 (playing back to front) in the second round of the 2009 RBC Canadian Open. He eclipsed the prior record of eight birdies in a row by eight different players.
That streak, however, is birdies only. There are three players in PGA Tour history that have played eight consecutive holes with a birdie or an eagle only. Billy Mayfair and Briny Baird made seven birdies and an eagle in the 2001 Buick Open and at Disney World in 2003, respectively, while Ryan Palmer made six birdies and two eagles in an eight-hole stretch at the 2015 CareerBuilder Challenge.
The most birdies made in a PGA Tour round is 13, shared by Chip Beck (1991) and Adam Hadwin (2017 CareerBuilder Challenge), when they each shot 59.
On the LPGA Tour, their consecutive birdie record is nine, shared by Beth Daniel (1999 Phillips Invitational) and Amy Yang (2015 LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship).
On PGA Tour Champions, four players, including Chi-Chi Rodriguez, share the mark with eight consecutive birdies.
On the Web.com Tour, Omar Uresti made nine consecutive birdies (holes 4-12) in the third round of the 1994 Shreveport Open.
