The 2017 TaylorMade M1 line of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids -- at least heads of those products -- have made their way to some golf shops. And, as you might imagine, some of those shops have posted photos of these heads to Instagram and elsewhere, sparking conversation about the changes to the M1 line for next year.
2017 TaylorMade M1 driver
The image shared of the driver head doesn't give us a full, 360-degree look at the club head. However, it seems that the T-track system from the original M1 has returned, perhaps with some refinement. It also appears a significant portion of the story will be the additional use of carbon fiber, not only in the crown, as with the original M1, but also in the sole. That gives engineers some additional discretionary weight to move around in the club head. How that will be used isn't clear.

2017 TaylorMade M1 fairway woods
The 2017 M1 fairway woods appear to have a slightly different shape than the original M1, and it also appears not to use carbon fiber in the sole in the same way the 2017 M1 driver might. The draw-fade track has been moved with the new model toward the back of the sole, perhaps for a couple of reasons. One, it allows engineers to move weight back to perhaps go low-back in the center of gravity placement. Two, it affords them sole space to put in a flex pocket of some kind that can improve ball speed and distance.
The hybrids also have a track system in the back sole of the club head, which will allow for a draw or fade bias without have to move around weights.
Just to make certain, sources have indicated that the photos are authentic. The M1 name remains, although there will likely be an official alteration to that name -- something like M1 460, as we see in a circulated driver picture.
