This was the final series for Turner Field -- a converted stadium from the 1996 Olympics -- as host of the Atlanta Braves. And the Braves kinda stunk up the joint, never really in contention for a playoff spot. So, when the Braves' season ended, the stadium knew they wouldn't have to worry about hosting a playoff series...or much else relating to the Braves after that.
So, the Turner Field folks took a page from the San Diego Padres and Petco Park, turning the stadium into a nine-hole par-3 course. Stadiumlinks, which has set up stadium golf courses in other cities, is designing the course (not yet available).
You can sign up to play the course at Turner Field from Oct. 14-16, for $60 per player, either in a twosome or a foursome. For an extra $50 per player, you can actually play two balls, with the better ball counting toward a tournament of all the players for a small cash prize, and you can warm up in the Braves' batting cage.
When the run as a golf course is done, Turner Field will be converted into a football stadium for Georgia State.
