Ian Poulter bought the police car that got Rory McIlroy to the Ryder Cup in time?

Ian Poulter now appears to own a piece of Ryder Cup history.

The Englishman has purchased the police car that transported a tardy Rory McIlroy to Medinah on Sunday of the 2012 Ryder Cup so the Ulsterman would make it to the course in time for the start of his singles match against Keegan Bradley. McIlroy confused his time zones, thinking his tee time was an hour later than it actually was.

The car was driven by Pat Rollins, the deputy chief of the Lombard (Ill.) police department, on a 12-mile journey from McIlroy's hotel. The 2005 Ford Crown Victoria was auctioned off in 2013, according to Golf Digest. Maybe Poulter bought it?

Ultimately, not only did McIlroy get to the first tee in time -- with 3 minutes to spare! -- but he beat Bradley by a 2-and-1 margin to secure a full point as part of the record-tying four-point, final day comeback.

As you might also recall, it's through that near international incident that McIlroy met his now fiancee Erica Stoll, who was working with the PGA of America as part of the Ryder Cup team in the Chicago area.
