EMC takes over title sponsorship of 2nd FedEx Cup playoff event from Deutsche Bank

The future of the second FedEx Cup playoff event is no longer in doubt, with consulting company EMC taking over as title sponsor of the Boston-area event from Deutsche Bank.

The PGA Tour announced the change Thursday, a day before the 2016 edition of the event. The new name is the tournament is still to be determined, but the event will continue to run from Friday to Labor Day Monday.

“We are extremely grateful to Deutsche Bank for its dedication and commitment to building the Deutsche Bank Championship into a premier event on the PGA Tour and an exceptionally worthy component of the FedExCup Playoffs,” said PGA Tour deputy commissioner Jay Monahan. “We look forward to celebrating a highly successful final week with Deutsche Bank before transitioning to EMC as the new title sponsor.”

EMC has been involved with the event since its start in 2003 as a Founders Club partner and became a local presenting sponsor.

Rickie Fowler is defending champion of the final Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.
