Tony Finau makes housecall to fan he hit with stray golf ball at Colonial

Tony Finau felt bad for the fan he hit with a stray shot on Saturday at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas.

After all, his ball busted open the female fan, requiring her to get some stitches.

But instead of giving the female fan, named Elisa, a signed glove or $100 or some other on-course gesture on the way to never seeing her again, Finau did one better: He performed a house call.

"In a very stand up gesture, [Finau] showed up at my door step with flowers, chocolates, a get well soon card, and he stayed and talked with us for a bit," Elisa shared in a caption to a collage picture she posted to Instagram -- the first showing her bloody face after getting hit on the 11th hole and the other of her holding flowers and a goodie bag along with Finau.

Finau told on Sunday that the image of Elisa's injury affected him for the remainder of his 3-over 73. The only thing that would ease his guilt was visiting Elisa, so he got her contact information from tournament officials, went to the grocery store for the flowers and chocolates and swung by her parents' house that night.

“I felt like I had to,” Finau said. “I just wanted to make sure she was OK, just for my peace of mind.”

Finau, himself hospitalized when he was struck in the temple by a stray golf shot when he was 16, got there as the family was preparing to take Elisa to get stitches.

Both Elisa and Finau appear to be healing nicely.
