Bud Cauley finished tied for fourth at the 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson on Sunday, his best finish on the PGA Tour since he finished third at the 2012 Wyndham Championship.
That doesn't mean Cauley had a flawless week at TPC Four Seasons. On the par-4 ninth, Cauley pulled his second shot well long and left of the green, leaving some 45 yards back to the green. It appears that's when a couple of fans maybe got a little too close to Cauley's intended line back into play.
A fan was taking video -- which they're not supposed to do -- of Cauley trying to figure out what seems like a squirrely lie, when Cauley finally decides to pull the trigger...and pull the punch...right into a friend of the cameraman (we originally said the cameraman himself).

It looks like the Pro V1 goes right off the fan's chest (the fan who was struck later told Cnet that it hit off his knuckle) and drops right to the ground. Cauley went on to make double-bogey 6 on the ninth, and that shot may well have been the difference between finishing tied for third with Matt Kuchar, which would have paid $423,400, and the six-way tie for fourth that paid him $264,625, a difference of $158,775.
