Russell Knox was on the fringe of contention at The Players Championship 2016 when he stepped to the tee at the par-3 17th at the Players Stadium Course.
And that's where his tournament fell apart.

Knox proceeded to put three balls in the water -- all from the tee box, never using the drop zone -- en route to a sextuple-bogey 9 that took him from 1 over on the round to 7 over.
The Scotsman bogeyed the final hole to round out an 8-over 80 on a day when 60 players of the 76 who made the weekend field had at least one double bogey or worse on the card. With the scoring average at about 75.5, the 9 was what finally put Knox on the bad side of that figure. On the day, Knox dropped 34 spots into a tie for 40th place.
Knox didn't set the record for the highest score on the island-green hole. Bob Tway still holds that mark with a 12 in extremely windy conditions in 2005.
